Heritage Festival on Tour

Heritage Festival on Tour!

In addition to Escape2Make’s exciting line-up of Heritage Festival workshops across Lancaster & Morecambe this Summer, we are proud to announce that for the first time ever Escape2Make will be delivering festival events in 6 additional locations around Lancashire & Cumbria.

What is the Heritage Festival?

The E2M Heritage Festival is a National Lottery Heritage Fund project that aims to bring young people closer to their local heritage through a collection of creative activities inspired by stories, people and places of where they are from.

Professional artists will design sessions across a variety of artistic mediums that help to tell stories of local heritage. Each artist will receive consultation on an area of local heritage from an expert sourced by Lancaster City Museums. The artists will also receive training from the Lancaster Black History group on the significance of black history in relation to Lancaster’s heritage.

Through different creative workshops including drama, sculpture-making, creative writing, music, crafts and more, 11-18 year olds will get the opportunity to learn new skills and learn about heritage stories for FREE over the Summer Holidays in 2026.

Escape2Make’s first Heritage Market Festival ran in 2023 and you can read more about that here: CLICK HERE!

What is happening this Summer?

Although E2M’s base of operations is in the Lancaster District, the Heritage Festival offers an opportunity for E2M to spread its wings and deliver some of the signature E2M magic in different locations.

As a part of the project, E2M is working with 6-different museums and heritage sites to offer free family-focused Heritage Festival days this Summer. These events will take place in:

  • Tullie Museum, Carlisle
  • Clitheroe Castle, Clitheroe
  • Abbott Hall, Kendal
  • Windermere Jetty Museum, Windermere
  • The Harris, Preston
  • Towneley Hall, Burnley

Each of these locations will hold a Heritage Festival of their own! They will open their doors, free of charge, to welcome anyone and everyone to take part in drop-in creative activities for all the family to enjoy. Each of the activities will be related to local heritage in some way!

What activities will there be?

Many of the available activities include heritage skills; crafts that are rarer to see nowadays but have a significant heritage in the North West of England.

Activities will include:

  • Lino Printing – learn the methods and techniques of lino cutting to produce postcards
  • Sculpture-Making – use materials such as felt, yarn and string to create sculptures based on the arrival and movement of migratory birds
  • Collage – imaginative assemblage incorporating aspects of mixed-media
  • Clay Carving – design and carve your own tiles, mugs or plates inspired by landscapes and architecture
  • Weaving – use natural materials and hand-held looms to create coasters and other small woven items
  • Woodwork – create driftwood boats using willow, rope, sea shells, seaweed and other beach materials

You will get to take home any creations you make. No registration required – you can take part in as many or as few as you like throughout the day!
