Vice-Chair / Treasurer
I started work at 11 years old typing up estimates and invoices for my Dads joinery business on an electric typewriter, I also worked weekends at our local pub pot washing. I didn’t really enjoy school and found myself floating between lots of different friends group not really fully fitting in any. By my final year at school I found myself in a small group with two best mates and realised that’s all I needed to get me through!
I left home when I was 16. Going to university wasn’t an option as I needed a full time income to pay the rent. I instead did an apprenticeship in Business Administration with a day release for college. My apprenticeship was with the home help agency. The Directors there soon spotted I was good at numbers and started training me on wages and bookkeeping. By the time I left them at the age of 19 I was their Financial Administrator. I then worked my way up through various finance roles and gained my accounting qualification.
I have over 30 years’ experience in finance roles. I am a qualified accountant working in practice at Waters and Atkinson Chartered Accountants. I specialise in startups and SMEs. I primarily do accounts, taxes and advisory work. I also manage the bookkeeping team. As well as my work with Escape2Make, I am a Trustee, Treasurer and Vice Chair at Ellel Village Hall Trust.
