Artist Callout: E2M West End Fair

Call for Artists!

Would you like to receive paid work in February half-term 2027 to deliver creative sessions with 11-18 year olds?

We are planning for our February 2027 Event… THE WEST END FAIR!

We are looking for artists who can deliver a creative workshop with us in either Morecambe or Lancaster during February half-term (Saturday 13th – Saturday 20th February)

The West End Fair will be a celebration of creativity in Morecambe’s West End, offering young people engaging ways to get involved in creative opportunities in exciting and accessible ways. The celebration event on Saturday 20th February will showcase work from young people and give members of the public the chance to try free drop-in workshops, led by the young people themselves, held around Morecambe’s West End.

How Can You Be Involved?

We need artists to run creative workshops for 11–18-year-olds, fitting the following brief:

  • Fun & Creative: Workshops should focus on creative activities that young people wouldn’t ordinarily have the chance to learn at school.
  • Accessible to All: The workshop should be able to be participated in by any and all 11-18s, with thought put into how to ensure the workshop is accessible
  • Celebrating Morecambe’s West End: We encourage any ideas that are themed around celebrating Morecambe’s West End and championing pride in the location’s heritage
  • Clear Outcome: The young people should be able to “make” something by the end of the workshop. Be it a physical creation, a film, a performance or something else – the workshop should be focused around “making”.

What We Need from You

  • Workshop Description: A brief explanation of the workshop(s) you would like to run (no more than 250 words). Include pictures/videos if available.
  • Introduction: A 100-word introduction about yourself and your experience. Please include where you are based. You may include a photo.

If you have previously submitted a proposal to E2M and would like to re-submit it, please let us know! We encourage re-submitted proposals, whether the workshops happened or not!

You can propose:

a one-off workshop to take place once during the workshop period,

Previously we have asked for submissions for 5-session long programs, but for this project we are only interested in 1-session lasting anywhere from 1.5 hours to 4 hours.

Submit as many ideas as you like, provided you can deliver them.

We are passionate about creating a diverse community of artists at Escape2Make and positively encourage applications from under-represented communities.

We will only consider application from artists based in the North West of England and we encourage artists based in the Lancaster District to apply. No prior experience necessary if your idea is strong enough and you show a dedication to providing successful workshops.

Submission Process

  • All ideas meeting the brief will be presented to our Youth Board, who will decide which to proceed with.
  • If selected, you will be paid a day rate of £300 – this can be broken down into:
    • £150 for workshop delivery (half-day)
    • £150 for planning and prep (half-day)
  • We will require you to get an enhanced DBS check and complete mandatory safeguarding, GDPR and First Aid training with us. This won’t incur any costs to you, but may require some time to complete or update ahead of working with us
  • You will be provided with support from assistants/volunteers, and given a materials budget to work with.

Tips

  • We encourage out-of-the-box thinking and love wild new ideas that are a bit different and may never have been done before
  • Look at our Clubs page and avoid proposing ideas that are too similar to clubs we already run
  • Consider your audience! The ideas are judged by a panel of 11-18 year-olds, so avoid using language that is either too academic, or too patronising
  • Specificity is key! Although we love an element of flexibility, if your idea is too vague it’ll be difficult to imagine how it will fit in with the rest of the programme

Note

If your idea is not selected, it may be due to various reasons (e.g., programming limits, similarity to another idea, fit for a different project). Please don’t be disheartened, and we encourage you to resubmit for future callouts!

Submission Deadline

Friday, 11th September, 5pm

Please submit your ideas to info@escape2make.org . If you have any questions or wish to discuss your submission, feel free to reach out to this e-mail address and organise an informal discussion with one of our team.
