Film Club Facilitator

As a teenager…

I was super excited about media – movies and TV and board/video games (and still am!). It took until my teens to realise that there were real jobs where you could do those things. Despite adults around me expecting me to study English or History (I am one of the few people who like writing essays), I stuck with my gut and studied film as soon as I could for my A-levels.

After School…

Took film further at Lancaster University. While I was very used to the essays and film studies part, I was incredibly nervous about the practical filmmaking side of things. I ended up loving it, and taking every optional module in it that I could. My spare time around university I got as involved as possible in local arts organisations and filmmaking experiences offered through my University jobs board and folks I knew.

And Now…

I’m working freelance in Lancaster mostly with local organisations – including making educational story films for the charity Settle Stories in North Yorkshire, Leading the Teen Media Team for The Bay International Film Festival in Morecambe, and of course making movies with the wonderful young folks at E2M. I even have time to make my own films on the side just for fun, which is great!

5 bits of advice to my teenage self…

  • I only have one piece of advice really, it's something my dad says that resonates with me and it's something I try tell myself today, too. You won't regret anything you try, you'll only regret the things you never tried at all.
